The City Council Wants a Well-Heeled Watchdog

Take the time, and read this story I came accross in the Chicago-Tribune.

Everything you need to know about the Chicago City Council’s relationship with its new inspector general was summed up in this anecdote from Thursday’s Tribune: Reached by reporters, the just-named watchdog declined to answer questions, saying aldermen had asked him not to speak to the media.

Faisal Khan, 38, was chosen by a panel appointed by the council’s Rules Committee. It will take a two-thirds vote of the council to approve hiring him, and another two-thirds vote, four years later, if he wants to keep the job. In between, he’s supposed to investigate alleged misconduct by those same aldermen.
